Darkness Rising Haunted Attraction began in 2006 as a family-run passion project created by the Baird family in their home in Massapequa, New York. What started as a small backyard haunt quickly grew into something much bigger - spilling through the yard, into the house itself, and eventually becoming a must-see destination for Halloween fans across Long Island.​

Over the years, Darkness Rising has proudly raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities, supporting organizations such as The Heather Pendergast Fund, YES Community Counseling Center, and most recently, the Copiague Fire Department. Giving back to the community has always been a core part of what we do, and every scream helps support causes close to home.​

Today, Darkness Rising continues to push boundaries, reinvent itself each season, and raise the bar for haunted attractions on Long Island. What began in a backyard has become a full-scale theatrical horror experience - but it’s still built with the same passion, creativity, and hands-on care that started it all.
